November 2006

Hello one last time Brethren,

It’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed but here it is November already and our annual is right around the corner. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Master of Harmony Lodge for the past year, thank you for helping make this a great year.

As is our custom at Harmony Lodge our regular meeting in October was our step up night for the officers and they were exceptional (did we expect anything less?). Our future, Brethren, is in good hands. Speaking of the officers I would like to thank every one of them for the help and support they have given to me over this last year, Thank you brothers for everything.

Our regular meeting in October was both entertaining and informative. I had the pleasure that night of presenting Wor. Bro. Paul Liese his 25 year medal, after the presentation and a few words about his 25 years he spoke to us about the construction of the Doric building. What I found to be an interesting fact was the first meeting held at the Doric building was on 10-3-51 exactly 55 years to the day of our meeting 10-3-06.

The next speaker we had that night was M.W.P.G.M. Bro. Brad Barko who gave us a presentation on the Washington Memorial. I never realized Rhode Island masonry played a big part in Washington ’s Masonic career. Thanks again M.W. (There will be a weekend trip to the memorial next September you will be kept notified.)

Also that night I was asked for a special favor by the second of our candidate’s class, but before I go on let me explain. One of our candidates Bro Steve Barton received his orders from the Navy and he was to be shipped out to Italy before the special meeting I had scheduled for their proficiency. Bro. Barton asked if he learned his proficiency by himself could he do it at our regular meeting and sign the by-laws before he left. The rest of his class wouldn’t hear of it and they all studied and took the proficiency that night. In just 4 days after receiving their degree Bros. the class was proficient and signed the by-laws. I think it took me more than four days to learn the obligation; it was absolutely amazing and made us very proud.

I would like to thank at this time Bro. Ray Athaide for an outstanding job with our first class and Bro. Stephen Charron for an equally outstanding job with the second class, And Bro James Ogilvie for not one but two middle chamber lectures this year. I’ve saved the best Thanks for last, Thank you Bro J. Bill Spicer for offering to do the Master Masons Lectures in their entirety. I’ve seen Bro Spicer do this once before and it never ceases to amaze me Thank you Bill. Since I’m on a thank you roll I would like to thank R.W. Ken Phillips for being my Chaplain on the M.M. Degree night and for giving the Canadian Charge to the class.

On October 28th we had our annual Halloween party and as usual it was a good time had by all I would like to thank our newly appointed social committee made up of members, wives, and girlfriends (if you are interested in joining our social committee or any other of our committees contact myself Bro Alan French or Bro Stephen Charron for information).

So my Bros I would like to say until next time but this is my last message as Master of our Lodge.

It all goes by so quickly.

Fraternally yours

Arthur J. Kurtz Jr.
